A woman who was involved in a car crash whilst riding her moped, has been awarded £145,000 compensation. Sarah Forbes, 30, was struck by a car which pulled out of a side road and knocked her from her moped. She sustained a dislocated hip, crushed sciatic nerve and part paralysis in her left foot in the accident.
Sarah had to undergo surgery to put her hip back into place, as well as inserting plates and pins to keep it in place. She is now left with permanent disabilities and limited mobility. She now has to use a wheelchair, Zimmer frame and walking stick to get around.
She commented on her terrible experience saying, “I was having flashbacks for about a year and a half. I can remember very clearly the moments after I got hit and before I hit the ground.
The overwhelming thought was of that advert when the guy hits the bonnet and thinking it was happening to me. I just couldn’t believe she hadn’t seen me.
It was all in slow motion, and then after I hit the ground it all sped up.”
She continued, “It’s been quite hard to deal with the aftermath of the accident and it has had a major effect on my life and the amount of independence that I now have.”
The road accident compensation Sarah has been awarded will go towards paying for further treatment and surgery that she will need in the future.
