A teenage girl has received £23m in road accident compensation following a car crash in which she suffered catastrophic spinal injuries. Agnes Collier was left with no use of her legs and limited use of her arms following the crash in March 2009. The accident was caused when a motorist pulled out of a side road, causing the car Miss Collier was travelling in to be hit by an oncoming lorry. The victim’s mother was killed in the crash, and her older brother suffered a serious head injury.
Miss Collier will receive the sum of £7.25m, followed by £270,000 annually, totalling £23m. The highest record before this amount for compensation was £12.2m.
