This week is Walk to School Week 2017. Encouraging children to become more active is an important part of our lives now, with fitness becoming ever more in the limelight.

But we need to also consider our children’s safety and making sure they know how to safely behave around busy roads. Pedestrian accidents, particularly those involving children, happen all too often. We need to teach our children the dangers of crossing the road and how to do this safely.

At Freeclaim Solicitors, we’ve helped many families after children have sadly been injured in a pedestrian accident.

Pedestrian accident case studies

We are acting for a 10-year-old minor, who was cycling to a friend’s house when he had stopped to cross the road at a Pelican crossing. He began to cross when the Defendant travelled through a red light and collided with him, causing him to be thrown onto the bonnet of the car and land on the road. He suffered a fracture to his ankle along with serious psychological effects.

To help with his recovery, we arranged for our client to be seen by an Orthopaedic Consultant. In addition, we have arranged for an examination with a clinical psychologist due to the fear that he now has of cycling on the road. It is hopeful this treatment will help him to overcome his fears and help him get back to cycling. We will also be arranging any further treatment necessary to help him recover from all his symptoms and help him and his family to get their lives back on track.

We are also currently acting for a 6 year-old-child who was crossing the road on his scooter when the Defendant suddenly came around a bend and collided with him. This knocked him off his scooter, causing injuries to the head, face and leg.

After initially denying liability, the Defendant has now made attempts to settle liability. However, we have arranged an examination with a Consultant and a psychologist in order to ensure that he will be accurately compensated and treated for his injuries and ensure a quicker a better level of recovery.
