Freeclaim Solicitors have recently raised funds for UNICEF by buying some brilliant and bespoke artwork from a local primary school. UNICEF is the leading organisation for children and children’s rights Worldwide. Their goal is to give every child, no matter where they live in the world and their circumstances, the best possible start in life.
The four pieces of artwork were drawn and kindly donated to the cause by school children at Haveley Hey Primary School in Benchill, Wythenshawe. The children had visited an exhibition on human rights at a museum in London, and were asked to create the artwork to mirror the issues that they had seen at the exhibition.
Crispin Balmer, a serious injury solicitor at Freeclaim saw the artwork on display in Wythenshawe and asked whether the children’s artwork could be purchased as a way of donating to such a great cause, “The artwork instantly caught my eye. The children have done a brilliant job capturing the issues on human rights in their artwork. It is a real pleasure to see their paintings in our offices everyday for both staff and visitors to enjoy.”
Leanne Straker at Haveley Hey said the artwork project had been a great success, “Being a Rights Respecting school, we put children’s rights at the heart of our curriculum. The children put a lot of effort into thinking about which rights were most important to them and how to express this in their protest poster. Seeing their work on display in the community, added an extra element to the enthusiasm of the whole year group, especially when Mr Balmer offered to buy some of the canvases.” Donations were collected from members of the community who also attended the pop up gallery and in total £300 was raised for the charity. The school continue to support UNICEF throughout the year hosting events on special days such as the recent ‘Day for Change’.
