The Government are set to introduce large fines for Claims Management Companies (CMCs) who use unethical approaches to obtaining new customers and who provide bad services to existing customers. New rules which will come into place later this year may result in some companies being fined up to 20% of their annual turnover.

The clampdown by the Government on claims companies is as a result of many such companies hassling people with unsolicited phone calls and text messages in a bid to gain more customers. The extent of these fines shows the serious nature of these breaches.

Freeclaim Solicitors welcome this clampdown and believe the Government should enforce these fines on companies, as well as removing licences so they can no longer work in the claims management sector.

Alastair Fernie, Managing Director at Freeclaim Solicitors, commented, “This has been a growing issue over the last few years, particularly with regards to unsolicited text and phone calls regarding personal injury. It is unacceptable for hard working people to be hounded by these companies, and they need to be stopped. If someone has been injured in an accident, I would suggest they get in touch with a reputable firm of personal injury solicitors, instead of using a claims management company”.
