A former rugby player has received sports injury compensation after he suffered a severe injury which ruined his rugby career.

The player, 29 at the time, suffered injury to his Achilles tendon while paying for his rugby club. Despite the fact that he had taken out accident and sickness insurance (as had been recommended by the Rugby Player’s Association) , his insurers rejected his claim saying that his tendon injury had been caused by a pre-existing condition.

Because of the injury he had to end his career as a professional rugby player and set up an energy services company.
He decided to challenge the insurer’s decision and after a five year battle with them he finally succeeded in his injury claim and has been awarded an undisclosed amount of compensation.
