Print Worker wins accident compensation after chemical exposure
Tue 19th May 09 - 14:40
A worker for the printing company Polestar Greaves has been awarded substantial industrial disease/illness compensation after he suffered kidney disease caused by chemical exposure in the workplace.
Whilst working at the printers, Mr. David Owenson regularly came into contact with toluene, a clear liquid that is used as an industrial solvent for oils, resins, paints and coatings. On a daily basis he breathed in the toluene substance when it emerged in the air and he would regularly feel dizzy and feel his eyes stinging. In 2000, unfortunately he was diagnosed with kidney disease and was forced to take early retirement due to his ill health. He was informed by medical experts that chemical exposure to the toluene substance in the workplace had a major impact on his kidney function.
He pursued a claim for workplace compensation for his industrial illness and has secured an undisclosed payout from his previous employers.
Unfortunately, there are many different types of injuries, illnesses and diseases that can develop after being exposed to chemicals and hazardous substances in the workplace.
