Paralysed cyclist expected to receive up to £4m in accident compensation
Tue 14th Jul 09 - 11:40

A cyclist left paralysed after a serious road accident is expected to receive up to £4m in compensation. Mr. Graham Gregory, 48, was cycling home when he was knocked over by a car which left him with such serious spinal injuries he became paralysed from the neck down and is now unable to care for himself.

A judge has ruled that he will receive ‘substantial compensation' for the injuries he has suffered and his long term care. As a cyclist, Mr. Gregory was active and healthy before the road accident, however due to his spinal injuries which left him tetraplegic; he is now confined to living in specially adapted housing and reliant on his family.

The driver of the car that hit him in the accident did not have the correct insurance, therefore the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) took over the case and after last minute negotiations, they agreed to compensate him on the basis of 90 % liability, which could amount to up to £4 million in road accident compensation.

The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) was set up to provide a fund out of which compensation could be paid to the victims of road traffic accidents caused by drivers who cannot be traced. Most applications under this scheme do not need to use a personal injury solicitor. However, in complex cases involving serious spinal or brain injuries, it is advisable to seek advice from an experienced serious injury lawyer with experience of dealing with serious MIB claims.
