Injuries Still A Problem In the Workplace
Mon 10th Aug 09 - 16:27
Employers have been urged to take action to prevent injuries at work by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The warning comes after a Chester man cracked his ribs after becoming trapped in machinery at work.
Mr. Stephen Shore was working at the Calder Industrial Materials Ltd clearing debris from a conveyor belt which had no guard and became trapped and sustained crush injuries. Calder Industrial Materials Ltd pleaded guilty to failing to prevent access to dangerous parts of the industrial machinery.
HSE Inspector Mr. Bruce Jones commented on the case:
"Mr Shore was badly injured because Calder Industrial Materials failed to prevent him from gaining access to dangerous machinery.
"This case should act as a reminder to employers of the importance of safety in the workplace. Effective measures must be put in place to prevent serious injuries from dangerous machinery."
