Government Agency Says Car Drivers Should Be Blamed For Cycling Accidents
Tue 22nd Sep 09 - 13:32
Cycling England, a Government funded agency, has proposed a change to the law to make drivers liable for road accidents involving cyclists. This would mean that all drivers and their insurers would be liable for cycling accident compensation claims.
There are already tensions between drivers and cyclists and many car drivers are absolutely furious at the suggestion that they would be to blame where the cycling accident was not their fault. The proposal is based on regulations in the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany whereby the law is more favourable to cyclists in road accidents. In these countries, even where the cyclist may have caused the road accident by an illegal or dangerous manoeuvre, the motorist can be blamed.
