Decrease in numbers of workers fatally injured, but statistics still too high
Tue 30th Jun 09 - 10:50
The Health and Safety Executive has recently reported on the number or work-related fatal injuries for 2008/2009. The provisional figures for work related deaths show a decrease of 22% compared to the average or the past five years. The downwards trend for workers fatally injured is certainly good news, however the number of victims is still too high and shows there are still too many employees and contractors put at serious risk of fatal injuries in the workplace.
Even with stricter health and safety legislation, there is still more work to be done to protect workers and employees in all sectors, but particularly in the most hazardous sectors for accidents at work and fatal injuries - farming and building and construction.
