£10,000 Workplace Compensation for Council Employee
Sun 2nd Aug 09 - 12:45
A council worker has been awarded £10,000 in accident compensation after suffering a slipped disc at work after being forced to use a broken chair.
Kay Fagg, 62, suffered the injury after her council employer failed to replace her broken chair. She has been forced to retire from her council position and now long term lower back pain.
Mrs. Fagg, a sheltered housing office, complained to her employees to get the broken chair replaced. However the council did not replace the chair and she was forced to continue using it for nearly nine months. It was only after she had a slipped disc operation and returned to work that the chair was eventually replaced.
Mrs. Fagg commented on her workplace injury, "I was in constant raw pain from my back, after my disc collapsed and trapped a sciatic nerve. And then when I had to have an operation I nearly bled to death on the operating table. After six months off work following my operation I finally had a risk assessment carried out. But it took them a year to sort out my office fully, which I am very angry about. I still have to take every day as it comes and do regular back exercises, as I don't want to lose the ability to walk."
Mrs. Fagg was finally awarded £10,000 in compensation after her workplace injury caused by poor health and safety standards.
